With Hivelight‘s recent listing in the Clio App Directory, Hivelight Co-Founder & CEO Ashley Kelso attended the Australian launch party for Clio – Cloud-Based Legal Technology in Sydney, Australia on 9 November 2023.
Throughout the entirety of the eventing the reasons for Clio’s enthusiastic reception in the Australian market shone through in every conversation – keep it simple, focus on the customer, value your relationships.
The evening opened with a welcome by Nicolas Chartrand, Vice-Consul & Trade Commissioner at The Consulate-General of Canada. He spoke of the common ties and long relationship between Canada and Australia, and gave Clio founder and CEO Jack Newton a warm welcome as a global leader in legal tech.
Jack spoke of how far Clio had come since it’s humble beginnings and mixed early reception. And by ‘mixed’ this ranged from attorney’s praising him for bringing law to the cloud, to others verbally abusing him at his trade show stand for the apparent recklessness of bringing law to the cloud.
Jack praised the hard-working Clio Australia team, noting that they had consistently smashed Clio’s forecasts each month, often by 3-4 times what had been expected.
APAC General Manager for Clio, Denise Farmer, then gave the most popular speech of the night, inviting everyone to “drink and eat!”.
The evening was attended Aussie Clio customers ranging from extreme early adopters like Ieva Vaityte of Astute Immigration Advisory and Kevin Sun of IT Lawyers Australia to more recent Clio converts (all of which seemed to be having their migrations done by David Lisitsa of newlaw.com).
Jack and Clio COO, Ronnie Gurion, gave freely of their time to everyone in the room right up until the close of the night – conversing, signing autographs, and posing for photos.
A selection of Clio partners also attended the evening, including Nick Goldrick of Bundledocs, Ashley Kelso of Hivelight, Grace Ouyang of Novum Global, and David Woolstencroft of Legal Practice Intelligence; as well as Matt Fiske-Jackson of UK-based Hindsight Legal Consulting.
Jack and Ash got to chatting about the importance of focusing on the customer, and the relationship you have with them, and the loyalty that firms give to you when you do this.
It was a regular theme from the conversations in the room that a large part of the Australian market’s enthusiasm for Clio came from the value they placed on their relationship with their customers.
Adriano Famularo, Clio APAC Account Executive, spoke of his passion for the industry and his appreciation for the consultative and relationship-based approach that Clio encourage their teams to take with the firms they serve.
The night finished with Ash standing in as photographer for the Clio team to snap the obligatory photo in front of the Sydney Opera House.
The Clio Australia launch party was an overwhelmingly positive night from start to finish. Thanks for having us Clio!
